William:

I have both thre 35/2 pre ASPH and the 35/2 Canon. There are big
differences in some particulars:

(1) The Canon is built heavier and has no focusing lever
(2) The Canon has no half-stops (may not be an issue) and is more
resistant to accidental changes
(3) Canon aperture setting is visible in the viewfinder of some cameras
lime the Hexar RF, due to its 2 o'clock position
(4) Canon is better at separating highlights
(5) Summicron is better at separating shadows
(6) Summicron has better bokeh
(7) Canon has higher contrast (hotter) and more apparent sharpness

I keep both. The Canon is a fine lens, at 1/2 of a Summicron's price.

Cheers
