Subject: [Leica] Wet and Digital Darkroom Questions - Pt/Pd Printing, et.al.

Hello LUG'ers

Thanks for the on and off list comments re: the Cannon 2/35 LTM. Of about
five responses, I got 4 pro "go for it" and 1 "It's ok, but not great..."

I found one locally for around 300 US, so I'll decide this weekend. Probably
I'll pick it up, try it out, then return it if I'm not happy with the
results.

(As much as I would love to 35ASPH, I'd rather put the money I save into
replacing my 4/90 with a new 2/90 APO.)

Now for my questions:

Q1.

I'm making a concerted effort to get back into the darkroom, and I'm very
interested in Pt printing (but lack a large format camera).

Anyone on the list doing Pt/Pd printing with Leica Glass ? And if so, how
are you going from 24mmx36mm to 4X5 or larger ?

Is digital a viable option here ? Can I scan a negative, then print it on a
type stock similar to copy film, then do the contact Pt/Pd print ?

Now, for all those "old timers" who like to splash around in the dark:

Q2.

Who on the list can point me to resources or share experiences regarding
water chemistry and developers ? I read (somewhere) that DI (De-ionized or
De-mineralized) water is not recommended for mixing developers. Apparently,
a certain concentration of metal cations and anions is required for optimum
development.

Is there an optimum concentration (TDS) where this occurs ?

I realise this isn't a darkroom list, so off list discussion would be great.

Thanks

William
