In English!

In French, the word boat, I understand, has masculine gender and boats
are more typically given masculine names. A very famous 40 foot yacht
formerly owned by globe circling sailor and author Bernard Moitessier
was named "Joshua," named after Canadian/American Slocum, first person
to circumnavigate single handed, a couple decades before the first
Leica. Eric the Red is also name of a boat, and book of the same name,
built on a shoestring and sporting a chinese LUG rig.

See, all sorts of coincidences going on.
