martin,

i believe that 'new' means 'previously unowned' and 'unused' means
'previously owned but never used.' i have never encountered such lexical
hair-splitting before getting involved in photography, where the nuances of
newitude and usedness are extrapolated to the umpteenth degree.

as lewis carroll once remarked, such is human perversity.
