Greg,
Some light shedding for you.

Leica admitted that they had been working hard on the M system of late but
that shouldn't be taken to mean the R system was dead or dying, there will
definitely be some new product sometime soon (Leica terms, some years...)
Autofocus was explained as impossible, as was focus confirmation. Either of
the facilities requires the installation of contrast measuring equipment
within the R8 body, at present that is not possible (through lack of space
within the design) and Leica recognise they need to run the R8 body for
some time to get their investment back from it. The R8 shape will be
developed, you could read that as there being an R9 coming in some shape or
form...

Plans to reproduce the original Leicaflex to celebrate 35 years of reflex
production were thought to be rather unnecessary!

Jem

We know there were no new R products shown, but for those who attended,
talked with Leica staffers, etc., what's the word on R?

Any news about R developments, new products, R future, lens updates, AF,
Focus Confirmation, more on the mysterious R8 connectors, R8.2, R9,
RWhatever?

Any light you can shed would be enjoyed.
