Simon,

With the 90 AA at f2, focusing distance 0.7m, the actual distance to
something on the edge is 0.72m and the DOF is around 3.2 mm both in front
and behind the point of focus and therefore DOF does not cover the focusing
error. An object on the edge will appear blur.

However in your case, the eye is halfway to the edge and therefore actual
distance is around 0.0704m which is less than 1mm from being covered by DOF
and therefore appears sharp.
