Information that you don't record, isn't there in your image.  The only way 
to get more accurate image data, is to have more accurate sensors...and the 
lense is certainly a major part of getting more accurate data to the 
sensor.  All the algorithms in the world, unless their Gnostic, can't do 
better than a more accurate sensor/lense.
