Greg Bicket,

>>that after lots of trying with the 80mm R, I could never consistently
put<<
>>the focus plane where I wanted it............I didn't trade it in until
the front<<
       >> lens element unit came off the rest of the lens while using it<<

I had the same thing happen to me with my 280 f4. Then, when I got it back
from Leica USA, the front lens element had a big screw "driven" through
the top side to hold it in place. Needless to say, proper focus was forever
unobtainable.......I traded it in for cash. I was a little "owlish" at the
time;-)!

That & a few other incidents *truly* dampened my enthusiasm for Leica gear
for a while; however, as of late, their quality seems to have gotten back
on track.

Relative to my 24mm R lens; I've owned it since 1993. It's been a reliable
&
consistent performer all that time. Although, my most heavily used focal
lengths
have been my 35 f2 "cron" & 90 f2.8 with my R7. Talk about "bread &butter"
lenses ;-)!
