Okay, some asked for a followup on the APX25/35mm vs. 4x5 bakeoff.

I shot the same scene with APX25 in my M2 with a 90 Tele-Elmarit and FP4+
in a 4x5 camera with a simple 3-element 300/9 Geronar lens.

I'm printing up both negs to 11x14 right now and I can immediately see
the difference between them. It's not even close. I guess at a viewing
distance of 3-4 feet you could confuse the two pictures if you were
looking very casually, but even at arm's length the difference between
the two prints is quite dramatic.

It would be nice to know how a 90 APO might perform against the
Tele-Elmarit at f5.6 (my working aperture) just for the sake of rounding
out this kind of comparison.

At least, this renews my faith in the larger formats. I know in other
words that I'm not wasting my time! In any case, my feelings about the
beauty and usefulness of the larger formats are strong. Someone on the
net recently said that the difference between 35mm and medium format
becomes apparent at the 8x10 print size and that's about where I would
put it as well.

Byron.
