Mark Rabiner has it right.  Either that or he never grew up :).  Hell, 
I'll settle for an occasional hearing of the Serenade for Strings or
the 6th Symphony...

Tchaikovsky's greatest failing was his ability to please the 'unwashed
masses', who are supposed to be unworthy of serious music. The Avant
Gardes can never forgive him for this: how can they preserve their
precious image if they confess to approving of a composer some of whose
works appeal to Aunt Mable? "Such lovely tunes, dear, just like
