Not quality control, but a design deficiency.  The rear element of the
skinny Tele-Elmarit sometimes is prone to separation and, as the element is
a press-fit into the body, removing it for repair becomes quite a problem.
Obviously, only a small number of examples suffer from this, but the
numbers have been large enough to cause some alarm among Leica M users.
