Subject: [Leica] Difference: 35 Summicron 2nd/3rd Version

Hello LUGGERS,

I'm wondering if there is any real difference in build/optical quality
between the 2nd and 3rd versions of the 35 Summicron? I notice that in
Dennis Laney's big book he says that the 3rd version is "Optically
similar, if not identical to the second version." It would appear that the
2nd version has a lever to set the aperture, and an infinity lock, whereas
the 3rd version does not. Further, the Collector's Checklist of Leica
Lenses and Accessories does not make a differentiation between the two.
After over 30 years of taking snapshots with my IIIF RD DA, I finally
broke down and bought an M6. These particular Summicron 35's seem to be a
little less expensive than the rest, and I'm thinking that either one
would be fine for my play. But as I don't have any experience with these
I'd appreciate your thoughts on this. TIA!
