I have an M6 TTL and an M4-P. I don't really regard either as the
other's backup, but I suppose they do sort of have tht function . With
my Hasselblad 500c/m I only have the one body but since many of the
moving parts are in the lenses, you could reasonably regard having more
than one lens as carrying a "backup." I also regard the Leicas as
backups for the Hassy, and vice versa (depending on the job) so
whichever isn't the primary system usually goes along in the trunk of my
car.

Most of this is moot, however, since mechanical Leicas and Hasselblads
are certainly among the more reliable cameras available. As long as you
don't do something dumb like stick your finger through a Leica's shutter
or try to remove the lens from an uncocked Hasselblad I'm very confident
in them. In terms of picture-destroying disasters I'm far more concerned
about the lab screwing up, or film getting lost in shipping, etc, than
camera reliability.
