Peter,

If it were me, I would take the M4-P, the 35/2 Cron and the 90/4 Elmar.  One
lens on the camera, one in your pocket and you're good to go.  Actually,
take whichever system you are more comfortable with, but the above is a nice
light kit that should serve most your photo needs without breaking your
back.  If you don't want to carry a bag, leave everything else at home,
except the meter (the backup point&shoot can go in your wife's purse).  Get
insurance for your gear, and don't worry about the thieves.  Leicas appear
pretty easy to replace, to me.

And now for the really important suggestion.  Lose the print film and go for
slides.  The results are so much nicer!  Color slides seem to show off Leica
lens quality like nothing else can.  Take some slow slide film, and some of
that Provia F 400  everyone has been raving about (if you can get it).  If
you only want to carry one film type, go for your favorite 100 speed film.
You can always push it up to two stops.  I do this fairly often with
Ektachrome with surprisingly good results (I still can't get my hands on any
of the Provia around here yet).
