This IS getting ridiculous but machine code is EASY compared to --

a) translating an entire scientific subroutine library from Algol into
Fortran 77 (including recursive routines -- agh!). This was during my brief
stint as a rocket scientist (true).

b) programming a prolog compiler

yes, I was that man...
