I recognise it's never going to resolve the situation immediately, if at all, for the guys wanting this lens, but there is a Leica related discussion going on here, rather than x, y or z (algebra ? ...) ;-) In part it reminds me of my conversations with Cooke Optics, here in the UK, who asked me (after I'd enquired whether their future plans might include production for 35mm cameras) "Would your friends want to pay 8000 UKP for a lens?" I figured they wouldn't but now realise I was probably wrong. Cooke sell to the Hollywood cine world and reckon to be 'top of the tree', above Panavision/Elcan, above Zeiss, the top 1-2%. I appreciate Leica realised too late that the production of this lens was above what they had anticipated. I can understand they want to sort the design and/or production of that before they make any more. But the interesting moral question of 'What will it take to get you to do that again?' is rather intriguing to consider. Jem - -----Original Message----- From: B. D. So why not discuss something useful...like which of the various shades made for the various 35s is most likely to eliminate flare when the light is coming from the left hand side of the frame, 3 degrees forward of the photographer's right foot?;-) B. Who figures that for the price you guys are willing to pay for this mythical piece of glass you can easily get best body Canon or Nikon make, and a whole bunch of quite nice lenses, and make some damn fine images....:0
