Well Austin,
in my post I neglected to say "to make an 8x10 print". My point is that If a
6x7 negative is cropped to square format, the negative area left is equal to
that of a Hassy, Bronica, Mamiya 6. When a square negative is cropped to
suit an 8x10 format, the usable negative area left is that of a 645 format.
The square format is ideal for CDs, H&D portraits and other subjects that
form more or less a square composition. You have to admit that square or
rectangular, most negatives are cropped to suit composition.

Each format has its place. So does each camera type. I would not try to
photograph close-ups or do product photography with a rangefinder nor would
I be a tourist toting a Mamiya RB, Hassy or other bulky MF reflex.

Cheers,
Joe
