Hi Simon,

The prototype is a 350mm f4.8 R that I bought a couple of weeks ago in
Cambridge. It is now in China with me!

I have rigged up a tripod mount and hood and used it a few times and it is
spectacular. A bit too unwieldy for handheld use I think but clearly a
supreme lens. The reason I believe it is a prototype is that it has a 517...
Serial number and no aperture or distance markings, nor aperture coupling
but it is marked in Leitz style with 'TELYT-R 1:4.8/350. It also focusses to
2m instead of 3m like the production version. The focussing ring is all
metal rather than the rubber inset of the production lens.

Anyone give me a offer or info on this? I understand that prototypes
typically cost $100k or more to make so I reckon this must be worth more
than a production version to someone...:^)

Bests

Adrian
