Any lens will flare - any lens.
I find my Leica glass quite flare resistant. And the 35 ASPH Summicron as 
flare resistant as they come.
I'm not saying you're wrong or that what you've shown did not happen.
But really, putting the midday sun in the frame is quite extreme.

You probably were out there too long without a hat I bet!  :)
