This was known as the "Rollei Look."  In it's subtler variations, it occurred 
when a portrait subject would look into the top lens.  The resulting photo 
would appear just a little off, as if the subject were gazing at the viewer's 
forehead.  

For years I though the "Rollei Look" referred to the fine quality of a Rollei 
image until some wiser head tarnished my golden image.  How like them.
