Ahh...that explains things. Metz doesn't make it very clear. Thanks.

The Metz website doesn't make anything very clear; e.g. try looking up
how to achieve off-camera TTL flash. I was forced to send a technical
inquiry to Metz on this point, to which their reply was: "For the
connection of a Metz 32Z-2 with adapter SCA3501 beside (sic) a camera
of type Leica R8 we recommend to use also the converting cable SCA3000C
with adapter SCA300 E." This solution connects a cable *and* an
additional adapter between the 3501 adapter (mounted on the camera's
hot-shoe) and the flashgun. The Metz solution is different for the SCA
300 system (e.g. Leica R7) and SCA 3000 system (e.g. R8 or M6), because
the adapter/flashgun interfaces are different. For the R7 you need the
SCA 307A cable.

Nikon provides a much neater and more robust solution, in the form of
the SC-17 TTL cable. This will work with any R camera or with the M6;
it works because the layout of the pins in the Nikon hot-shoe just
happens to be exactly the same as Leica. (The actual use to which each
individual pin is put may not be the same but that doesn't matter). One
end of the SC-17 plugs into the camera's hot-shoe and the other end
plugs into whatever flashgun/SCA adapter you are using (e.g. Leica
SF-20, Metz SCA351 + flash, Metz SCA3501 + flash, ...). The SCA adapter
is attached directly to the flashgun and both are off-camera. Several
SC-17 cables can be connected end-to-end if required.

Anyone interested can see a picture of the SC-17 at:

Hope this is useful.
