All of the hoods I have seen or used for any 35mm Summicrons have been
pretty small and discrete. I use the vented 12585 on both a spherical and
aspherical versions, and also have the standard issue little square hoods
that came with each lens. Just which hood is giving you so much trouble? I
am a big believer in using hoods, both as physical protection for the lens
and it's front element and as a last prophylaxis against any flare. I
prefer clip on hoods which break away when bumped hard. I hate lenses with
telescoping shades. Nonetheless, if the hood offends you for technical or
aesthetic reasons, I suggest that you try shooting with and without one in
various conditions and decide for yourself whether you need it or not based
upon the results.

i have the 35 summicron f2 and recently got a hood for it. my problem
is that the hood protrudes too much and makes the camera too big and
more noticeable.

is a hood really going to make a big difference? I'm thinking about
foregoing the hood...
