I did not read it that way.

For a lot of people this photography thing * IS * a game and some make 
their own rules. Some just for fun, some for a serious purpose of 
learning, lots of reasons.

If someone wants to play the game with easier or harder rules - great - 
more power to them.

Other rules:
black & white
color
no flash ever
flash
one lens/one camera
many lenses/many cameras
SLR
Rangefinder
35mm
MF
LF

There may well be "photographic morons" on this list but they do not need 
to be  characterized as such because of the rules they choose for their 
game.
(yes, I did read that you are not singling anyone out)

Does playing by personal rules signify the end of perfectly practiced 
photography? I think not. 

The perfection or excellence of practice is determined by how closely the 
practitioner follows their rules.

You are absolutely right that when playing with art directors and clients 
you had better play by their rules.

But if you make ALL your pictures to someone else's rules, WHY BOTHER AT 
ALL?
