sorry, I completely misunderstood what you were doing. Now I get it! Very
good idea. Re your lighting problem I why not buy some cheap white nylon
fabric and build a light tent which is attached to the camera so that when
you put the camera on the object to be photographed, the tent is
automatically in place.

Then just use a regular strobe w/diffuser to illuminate the tent.
