I said you don't want ND filters.

Say your meter reading outdoors at a 50th was f8.

Look at your flash. How far will f8 take you.(Full manual) 10 feet?

That means you can't shoot at 15 feet because you'd have to set your lens at 5.6.
You'd be over exposing the picture just with the ambient light. 
In other words the flash doesn't even go off and you've got an over exposed picture.

But a more powerful flash would be able to shoot at 15 feet at f8 or f11.
And not have it overexposed by the ambient light. (the sun)

So that's what you'd want if you wanted flash or flash fill with your Leica M.

Naturally carrying a flash twice the size of your camera does not on the long
run make sense if that is what you are always doing.

Hence the R system at it's higher synch speeds.

Because F5.6 at 250th of a second is NOT overexposing that example situation I
just mentioned!
so you can use the 5.6 setting for your small Leica flash!
