It doesn't exactly synchronize at those speeds.

Normally when we think SYNC. 
We are thinking a fully uncovered film. 
Not a piece of film with a travelling slit in front of it.

It's got the flash firing a sustained (in effect) burst like a flash bulb.
The shutter slit slices thought that sustained (strobo) burst.
The flash is synching to the camera more than the other way around.
Why Leica can't do this I don't know.
Keep the shutter. Change the flash. (and the way the two work together)
