Please note that in most US malls you are under nearly continuous video
surveillance. The prohibition of photography in malls is not to protect the
public from being photographed without permission, but to establish that
management has a monopoly right to do so.

I do agree with your points that there are more and less effective ways to
protest unfair restrictions on photography. But simply acquiescing to
authority is not always the best way to proceed.
