I worked as a press photographer for the Boston Globe in the late 40s using a 
4x5 Speed Graphic and I can assure you that we NEVER worried about grain. 
What we worried about was getting the right shot in one exposure. Printed 
with a 65 line/inch screen, film grain the size of basketballs would hardly 
show.
