It's a Grade 2 level observation. Something YOUR teacher was told as a child
and never examined. Since the original meaning of the workd 'nice' (dainty,
exact, as in 'a nice distinction') has all but disappeared from common
usage, it carries its new meaning with broad shoulders.

'Nice' is a perfectly good word. I use it a lot, particularly in the
presence of Grade 2 teachers.
