The Leica USA team will service a Leica under warranty, purchased anywhere
in the world, for free, and will charge for out of warranty repairs.
Regardless what weasel dealers may say.

The real difference in USA vs grey is the type of warranty....

Grey is either 1 or 2 years (I forget which) for normal repairs, not caused
by the user or wear and tear.

Passport USA covers 3 years for anything, minus fire. Return the part with
the serial number intact and you get a repair for free. Your dog licked
your $15,000 APO 400mm F1.0 lens? Drop your brand new M6TTL from the
rowbaot in Central Park? Return the camera or lens to Leica USA. Leica USA
Passport warranty will cover it, functional repair as well as cosmetic
repair.

The Passport warranty is the best insurance for equipment that will undergo
severe use or in areas of likely harm to your camera. After 2 years and 11
months, return the camera to Leica for a full overhaul, then sell the camera
as Mint+++ ....... I bet a LOT of heavy users do just this to suppport
their Leica Habit....
