The little UV filter for my 35 mm lens cost $60 from Leica; compared to that,
$200 for a custom-ground lens for an eyepiece doesn't sound that bad.

You could call Leica themselves and ask them what _they_ would charge to grind a
lens for you, and perhaps that would help put the price you mention below in
perspective.
