If you mean solid-state electronics, they were like digital cameras today:
Volatile (i.e., obsolete in a month), unreliable, expensive, inferior to more
conventional technologies, and appealing strongly only to the equipment geeks.

Forty-five years from now, we'll probably all be shooting digital, but it won't
be tomorrow.
