Hi Steve,
The very thing that makes the shot work is the "light."  Thank goodness for
soft light, the best for street people anytime. As harsh sunlight would've
killed the content with deadly shadows, unless the musician were standing in
shade.

On my monitor it looks like the contrast could've been increased slightly,
this is not a criticism of the photograph but as it appears on my screen,
therefore not the case in real world printing.

Certainly this is the better of the two photographs, as the alternate is too
busy for the eyes to lock on and appreciate any one point of it. Your eye
seems to dart here there and everywhere finding "little pictures within the
big picture."

As usual for Steve, another keeper!
