Two comments:
1st Taken from 33 num.4 LHSA viewfinder, posted on web
From last LHSA meeting in Boston, year 2000, Q and A:

After a coffee break Ralph Hagenauer, Leica’s Director of Marketing, and 
Stefan Daniel, Product Manager, gave a talk on what’s new with Leica, 
including new Photokina products.

3) Plans to recalculate the 50/1.4 Summilux-M?
Will need new technology, so not for 2 -3 years.

2nd Erwin pointed in 28/2 ASPH evaluation that:
the size limiting factor it is not a big factor for Leica! Their answer is 
ASPH. Look on 28/2 ASPH size vs. 28/2.8 size – and the new lens has one stop 
more.

that a new M version is on the way. However, Leica has stated that they are
