I bought my Yashica D on the proceeds of cleaning toilets for $1.05. I
must have been working for the wrong employer.

My first camera purchase was financed by cleaning a photo studio,
including the toilets, of course. $1.25 / hour. Bought a brand new
Mamiya TLR with a couple lenses. Eventually moved up to photo assistant
plus cleaning and bought an M3 and then M2.
