The original shutters in the FE, FM series frequently quit service quite early and continue to do so. In fairness the FE2 and FM2 seem quite reliable. As to the F4 shutter, Nikon had a policy of instant total replacement for the core of that camera as it entered service. In other words, you brought in your non-functioning F4 to an authorized repair center, they would take it into the back, replace the guts, and bring it out the next day saying it just needed an adjustment. For those who challenge, this is from the former manager of the "official" Nikon repair center in Atlanta. He is the former manager as Nikon closed shop in the SE US, he now owns a large repair center in Atlanta that is still partial to Nikon. As to the copal square shutter, pick up any Nikkormat today and the shutter works. An amazing piece of engineering. Last, if Stephen Gandy is still lurking I wonder if you could replace Leica shutter curtains with titanium foil as done in the SP Nikon and Stephen offers for earlier S2's?
