Well, to be fair, Leitz has a long record, before and after 1961, of
announcing cameras long before they arrived in dealers' shops.  But the
record is probably held by Zeiss Ikon:  they announced the Contarex
Bullseye at Photokina '58, TWO YEARS before it was generally available.

I suspect the "good old days" really weren't all that good.
