The regular speeds are set on the dial on the top cover. If this is a IIIf
BD (Black-Dial), these speeds will run from 1/30" to 1/1000", with Bulb,
while the IIIf RD (Red-Dial), the speeds run from 1/25" to 1/1000", with
Bulb. The slow speeds are set on the dial on the front of the camera: to
use the slow-speed dial, set the regular-speed dial to its lowest speed
(1/30" or 1/25") and then set the slow speeds on the dial on the front of
the camera -- there should be a "T" or "Z" setting on the slow-speed dial,
as well: this is for "time exposure".
Flash synch is 1/30" for the BD and 1/50" for RD. Set the dial under the
regular-speed dial to "2" for BD, "20" for RD, for electronic-flash synch
("X" synch).
The lever you mention is the rewind lever. It should be swung back onto
the top deck when using the camera and swung forward when rewinding.
