Pablo-
Well, I might have disagreed with you at one time, but I really can't. It
does appear the it depends on how the camera is set up. Properly set up,
with the tension on the curtains just right--- the IIIf RD is super quiet.
I have to admit that some technicians will adjust the shutter by tightening
the curtain springs which are sort of like those in a window shade!!
IF too tight, they can make the shutter 'slap' and be a lot louder than if
they are adjusted with a minimum of tension. Sometimes, is f shutter drags,
I get the impression that the easy fix is to crank a little more tension
onto the shutter roller, and that is a quick, and easy fix, but harder on
the camera. The shutter speed is actually determined by the width of the gap
bewtween the two shutters, and not their inheren speed. So a well lubed,
clean shutter, without any problems will operate with the minimum required
tension, and be a WHLOE LOT QUIETER, than one that's cranked up, and
slapping like a window shade that has been let loose!
My recommendation is that anyone with an LTM find a reputable person- plenty
here in the US.... I wonder if the postage and wait is worthwhile to send a
camera here from there?! Some one who understands the way it is supposed to
work.
You got me intriqued- I compared my IIIf with my M3 and M6, and have to
admit, that with a lens on the IIIf might- I say might because it was pretty
darn close!- be a little quieter!!
Dan
