Subject: [Leica] Portrait lens selection

I think the lens selected depends on the portrait desired. If I know I want
zero DOF then it is the 75 between 1.4 and 2 for sure. When I want a more
typical portrait with good focus from the nose through the ears then I will
use the 90 Elmarit at about 5.6. If I'm using a SLR then I will use either
the 90 Summicron or the 85 Sonnar again at middle apertures. For some
reason if I want zero DOF in the SLR world I will use a 180 to 200 wide open
to completely eliminate the background.

From what you said regarding the lenses you own then I think the 100 makes
the most sense as an everyday portrait lens. Wide open you will have very
limited DOF and as you stop down you will have what you want. In the M
world the 90's work fine with the same principle. Almost always the tool
you have can be made to work.
