The synch may or may not be set properly internally. Here's how to set it 
for yur individual camera.

Remove the baseplate and lens. Set the synch dial to O for a black dial or 
20 for a red dial. Slip and\ index card into the camera from the bottom in 
front of the pressure plate. Plug in your electronic flash and aim it into 
the camera body through the lens mount. Fire the flash while looking into 
the opening. The white card should show as a white rectangle the size of a 
full frame negative. Adjust the synch dial until this full rectangle shows. 
That is the setting for YOUR camera.
