What about art photographers like Andreas Gursky? He spent eight years in a 
German photography grad school. Some of his pictures now sell for over 
$500,000, making him one of the top photographers in the world. If you're not 
familiar with his work, there are several books showing his pictures, 
including the catalog from his recent MOMA show.
