I admit that P. Bourdieu is no Susan Sontag, but here he goes again: 

    "The intention of cultivating artistic photography and of practising it 
'as an amature', for oneself, as an artist and without any hope of income 
from it, seems to constitute one of the most stable norms of the photographic 
profession."
