Rating the Noctilux anywhere near these old slr lenses with a 1.2 maximum
aperture is no comparison. The 1.2 lenses I have used include: Canon 55 f1.2
SSC, Minolta MC Rokkor 58 f1.2, Taika Harigon (Exacta) 58 f1.2, Nikkor 55
f1.2 and the Noctilux. The Noctilux blows them all away. There really is no
comparison. The shadow detail, resolution, freedom from flare and color
saturation make the Nocti the one to beat. It is the only super speed lens
that I will use at the maximum aperture with confidence. The other fast
lenses are a hit or miss proposition. I'm talking about money-making
situations, where the client won't accept soft, fuzzy, semi-sharp,
low-contrast images. The Noctilux always amazes. Well, for its cost it had
better.
BTW, is $450 for a late German Tele-Elmarit-M 90 f2.8 a fair deal? I have
found and bought one for this price, had it sent second day air and will see
it very soon. Are the German lenses more desireable for this design? How
many versions of this lens are there? Fat, skinny, etc, its confusing.
Thanks in advance for the input. This group is unique and wonderful, mostly,
Jimbo
