I store my soft release with the threads stuck in the tripod socket. I
put a
strip of <gasp!> heavy black cloth tape over it to hold it in place.
Maybe if
I get really bored someday, I'll make something that threads in to the
tripod
socket and has a hole in the center that's threaded to take the softie.

That's my million dollar idea, to retire on.
