The "cigar" photo at: http://home.istar.ca/~robsteve/photography/Noctilux.htm is interesting because I have been achieving the same effect using Vari Focus from www.andromeda.com I know this is a little off-topic, however, Vari Focus is one Photoshop plug-in that is actually useful when the end product is a "real" photograph and not a piece of ad copy.
