I have a Canon G1 but would buy the Lumix LC5 instead had it been
available earlier:

You never can have too many pixels for a digital camera - the
resolution is user-variable anyway.  From what it looks, the LC5
accepts any flash with a standard ISO foot, unlike Nikon, Sony,
Minolta and Canon, et al which take only dedicated units.
