Years ago I read a piece that suggests we desire most to carry around the
surroundings in which we evolved - hence our desire for rolling lawns strewn
with trees to recreate the savannahs of Africa.

It really connected with me because I remember the first timeI came to
California and saw the oaks on the golden hillsides and instantly felt at home.
I still feel the same way about the hills and when I see photos of Africa I tend
to the feel the same connection.
