Subject: [Leica] Leica II gold ?

A good friend of mine is back from China with a RF camera which was sold as
a Leica (it's engraved so ...).
In fact the camera looks like a Leica II - serial number 2570** (according
to Cameraquest it's a IIIa from 1937 but my friend's one has only one speed
dial) gold (or patent brass) with very few scratches for a 65 year old
camera. The shutter is very noisy and hard to release compared to my IIf.
The lens is a classical Elmar 50/3.5 (gold too !!!) serial 639125** with the
old serie of figures (3.5 - 4.5 - 6.3 and so on).
My friend is very happy with his first journey in China and his new camera
but is it a Leica or a fake ?? I never heard about pre war gold II with gold
Elmar.
And if it's a fake how can I break the news to him?

TIA

Bernard
