Just don't let the lens point anywhere toward the sun if you're not taking
pictures.  Can burn a hole through the shutter.

Yeah, it's pretty much a center "spot" meter.  I fill up the metering area
with snow and then open up 2 or 3 stops...depending on how much texture I
want in it.
